Visit to the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study for Sustainability (UNU-IAS) in Tokyo, Japan

On October 29, Dean Takamichi Hosoda held a meeting and exchanged views with Professor Shinobu Yamaguchi, Director, and Ms Taka Horio, Director-General of the Postgraduate Programmes, of the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). Associate Professor Yuta Hirose also attended the meeting.

UNU-IAS is an international organization that promotes advanced research and education by leveraging a global network of researchers, focusing on the following themes: 1) governance for climate change and sustainable development, 2) biodiversity and society, 3) water and resource management and 4) innovation and education. Through its graduate programs, including master’s and doctoral courses, fellowships and intensive core courses, UNU-IAS cultivates the next generation of international leaders equipped with interdisciplinary understanding and practical skills.

During the meeting, building on the recent luncheon and meeting with Rector and Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, we exchanged ideas on concrete possibilities for collaboration that foster mutual learning and growth. This includes opportunities for UNU-IAS graduate students to participate in lectures and workshops at ABS, as well as for ABS students to engage in learning activities at UNU-IAS. We look forward to deepening the collaboration between ABS and the United Nations University, advancing practical education and research that contribute to a sustainable future.
