Guest Lecturer: Yukie Umezu (Director of the IKIKATA JOZU Research Institute at Halmek Co Ltd)

On 9 December, during the 'International Management Seminar I' class, taught by Professor Kenichiro Kuroiwa, we invited Ms Yukie Umezu, Director of the IKIKATA JOZU Research Institute at Halmek Co Ltd, to deliver a lecture and workshop on the theme 'Practical Interview Research'.

The session began with an explanation of the fundamentals, including the main types of qualitative research and their respective strengths and weaknesses. Ms Umezu then introduced practical techniques applicable in the field, such as structuring questions to elicit consumer insights effectively. This was followed by a practical session in which students designed research plans and formulated interview flows. Throughout the exercises, participants raised numerous questions. Drawing on her extensive experience, Ms Umezu provided precise answers to each one, enabling participants to deepen their understanding as they progressed.

Participants learned the theoretical aspects of qualitative research while gaining practical experience in skill-based elements such as conversational techniques and questioning methods. The class provided a significant opportunity to develop the skills necessary for planning and conducting interview surveys.
